My name is Brenda Johnson and this is my 3rd week of the 100 Day Heart Challenge. I work at UVRMC in the Transfusion Services department of the Laboratory. I turned 50 years old this month, am married and have 4 beautiful daughters, 2 son in laws, and 1 1/2 grandchildren.
I decided to apply for the 100 Day Heart Challenge for several reasons, probably like most everyone else. I wanted my life to be better. I have never been in great shape. I have lost pounds here and there but I have an aversion to sore muscles, hard breathing, and SWEAT, and my favorite comfort foods are cheese and peanut butter, so it is never maintainable for long. In the meantime, I am getting older with achy shoulders, tender back muscles, and I notice I am sometimes shuffling my feet (my mom and 4 of her siblings have Alzheimer's, so neurologic stuff looks very scary!)
So . . . .the first week I was really fired up, worked out with my trainer with not too much sweating and lost 2 pounds. Wow!! On day #8, I started to think that this was crazy. What was I thinking? My muscles were waking up. Even though I was trying to balance carbs, protein and fat, I was craving sugar.
In week 3, some of the cravings have disappeared. I stepped on the scale today and have lost 5 pounds.
This stuff really works and that makes me really want to stick to my goals. It is becoming a bit of a head trip!
